Iaido is a traditional Japanese martial art associated with the smooth, controlled movements of drawing the sword from its scabbard, striking or cutting an opponent, removing blood from the blade, and then replacing the sword in the scabbard. The aim of iaido is a state of being present, of concentration, honesty, integrity, of a calm mind and spiritual and physical wholeness while practicing traditional swordsmanship. This martial art is very closely linked to the Samurai and Japanese nobility. Iaido is not considered a sport, but a unique and ancient art for developing body, soul and spirit.
